TRAVEL INFO
GETTING TO CHEMNITZ

BY PLANE

Chemnitz does not have a major commercial airport.
The nearest international airports serving Chemnitz are:

  • Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ), about 90–110 km away. More info

  • Dresden Airport (DRS), about 80 km away. More info

You can also consider larger international hubs such as Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) — followed by train or bus — if flights to Leipzig or Dresden are not convenient.

From those airports, reaching Chemnitz is straightforward:

  • From Leipzig/Halle (LEJ): take a train (or bus) to Chemnitz. Approximate journey time ~ 1h 20–1h 35min.

  • From Dresden (DRS): regional train via Dresden Hbf to Chemnitz Main Station (Hbf) — around 1h 35min total

  • From Berlin (BER): there are also train or long-distance bus connections to Chemnitz; travel time ~ 2.5–3.5 h depending on connection.

BY TRAIN

Chemnitz is reachable by train — arriving at Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof (main station). More info

  • From cities such as Leipzig, or Dresden, there are frequent regional or regional-express trains.

  • Note: Chemnitz is generally served by regional and regional-express trains (not always by high-speed ICE).

  • Once at Chemnitz Hauptbahnhof, the city centre, many hotels and venues, and the bus/tram network are within a short walking radius.

BY CAR

Chemnitz is well connected via German motorways: it lies at the junction of the highways A4 motorway and A72 motorway.
Depending on your starting point, typical exits are:

  • On A4: exits “Chemnitz-Glösa” or “Chemnitz-Mitte”

  • On A72: exits “Chemnitz-Süd” or “Chemnitz-Rottluff”

Once in Chemnitz, there are Park & Ride facilities and car-parks for cars, coaches and — for certain parking lots — motorhomes.

BY BUS

Long-distance buses (e.g. operated by FlixBus) provide direct connections to Chemnitz from several major cities (for example Berlin, Prague, Munich, Nuremberg).
From the central bus terminal (near the main station), you are just a few minutes by foot or public transport away from the city centre.
